The Long Haul

The traffic is always brutal and exhausting. I prefer Christian driving the autobahns. His dad was kind enough to lend us his campervan, again! And it always makes the travelling a much easy and comfortable journey. The shower and toilet are always on standby in case of emergencies.

As we passed Kassel, Christian pointed out Hercules Monument way up on the hill. I have yet to see it up close but from a distance it looks like a monstrous size. There was a large lake and harbour off to our right with a huge inventory of moored boats. Very nice, maybe one day by seakayak!

Then this tanker drove by us and to our surprise it had on board fresh trout, freja forellen. That was a first for me so I took a picture.

Just before Hannover #5 in an auto rest stop, we noticed a peculiar event. Many police vehicles and fire trucks and a couple of men had a green complete body protection suit on and they were fitted with oxygen. Uhm...? a chemical leak? :(

Christian brought my attention to the birch forest that now lined the autobahn. And around Heide park the Heather had covered everything in sight with a pink hue. Der Landschaft is bewaldet und gebirgig.

As we drove past Lübeck, Bad Schwartau, jam capital, and all the way up to Heiligenhafen at Fehmarn. There we found a quiet beach/shoreline to park the van and take a walk during sunset. tomorrow we will take the ferry across the Baltic Sea to Lolland, the first Denmark island to be visited.
